Co Adriaanse it seems to be the one, we do got a few Dutch paluyers these days so
Last year Van Basten almost got the job, but the guy who choose him, lost the election for club president, it was a close call I vote it for him. Co already won the title with Porto, a strange coach
Didn’t think of him. Of course, Co.
Good coach, PSV almost hired him a couple of years ago, it was either him or Rutten … ask Bad Lieutenant what would have been the better choice …
[quote=“Phil H, post:2099, topic:527”]I did mate. There was also a 5 minute scene shot there for the 1967 Stanley Baker crime film, Robbery. A good film by the way.
If you want to see what it was like there when I was first going you can check it out on the youtube link below. The scene is at around the 43 minute mark and runs to around 48. The scene takes place in the behind the goal terrace where my Dad used to take us.
P.S. The O’s used to play in blue back then. Just goes to show there’s always been change.
- YouTube, I’ve not seen Robbery for years.
I would prefer Frank Rijkkard, his teams a have good looking attacking game, something that is a must in Sporting, we can loose, but if we play well or do the joga bonito, were OK Also he likes to bet in young players also a must in a club like Sporting.
In any case I think we need a 3 years project, long term in football time, and doing worst is kind of difficult, we even have some good players this year.

If I had the choice between the names I’ve mentioned and add Rijkaard to the list (let’s forget for a moment about Cruijff or Hiddink, they’re hors concours, I guess), my first choice would be Rijkaard too, but my second would be Co Adriaanse. He always promotes attractive football, he knows how to work with talented young players, and he often (not always) get results … this brings me to his biggest drawback: he believes in what he’s doing … up to a point that he might leave the job when people don’t follow him. He is, in other words, a pretty stubborn guy. But then again: if you don’t believe in yourself, what are you doing in football … ?

Yep. Luckily Fred is gone now. Advocaat is a great coach for this PSV.
Good game between Barca and Real tonight, a deserved 2-2 draw with the No.1 and 2 in the world getting a brace each.
If people were still in doubt about which European teams might be a serious thread to the South-American ‘home teams’ within two years, Spain and Germany have given a clear answer tonight. Both were thought to face serious opposition in away games, against, respectively Belarus and Ireland:
Belarus - Spain 0-4
Ireland - Germany 1-6
Belgium finally doing what they should have done before: get results with their very talented (young) team:
Serbia - Belgium 0-3
Remarkable result:
Russia - Portugal 1-0 …
Some pretty bizarre results in the qualification matches today, with germany and Spain dropping point at home
Spain - France 1-1
The first point they drop at home in six years, so quite a result for France. Spain missing a penalty, but a clear French goal not given, so the result seems okay.
Germany - Sweden 4-4 (!)
The result as such is already quite bizarre, but things are getting even more outlandish if you know Germany was leading 4-0 after sixty minutes. I haven’t seen the game, but when I heard the result I immediately switched to German television and heard some comments from players and experts. Nobody was able to explain what had happenend. I must say that I can’t remember a game at this level with such a scoreline.
Rumania - Holland 1-4
Everybody in Holland was afraid the young team would collapse in the hectic Rumanian atmosphere, especially with both Sneijder and Robben injured. But Van Gaal brought back Van der Vaart (who seems to have found his best form back in Hamburg) and he led his team to a magnificent victory.
Van Gaal is doing it again. 12 points out of four games. I had not expected this.
Belgium - Scotland 2-0
Good victory for Belgium against a mediocre Scottish team.
Portugal - Northern ireland
Not yet finished, but 1-1 with not too much time left. Well well.
It was pissing down in Poland so it’s postponed till tomorrow.
In a stadium that has a shut roof option!!! ???
:o

Bad weather forecast maybe, closing those roofs might take quite a while

Turned out to be a boring match the next day.
Went to the Chelsea V Shakhtar game tonight, what a thriller, my heart was pumping the whole time. First time I’ve been this season, it’s my birthday in a couple of weeks and my Dad got a ticket.

Just watched the Juventus - Chelsea game
Not a great night for Yodlaf, Chelsea (surprisingly uninspired) losing 3-0, creating not very much
I don’t think they will defend their title successfully, but then again, few people would have expected them to

I never did think they would retain the title but thought they’s get a couple of stages past the group stage at least.
Now the have to beat Nordsjaelland but have to rely of Shakhtar to beat Juventus.
I reckon they will beat Nordsjaelland but their fate will be whatever the outcome of the other game is.
8-0! ;D ;D ;D
Some remarkable results in the semi finals of the League Cup:
Chelsea - Swansea 0-2
Bradford - Aston Villa 3-1
Only first legs, so the ‘big teams’ might still hit back, but that won’t change the great story of this night. Excellent work by the underdogs. I feel sorry for Yodlaf, but I enjoyed it a lot. And Chelsea have nothing to complain, they can only blame themselves: they had 90% percent of the game, didn’t score, and gave away two stupid goals.
Just imagine, a Bradford - Swansea final on Wembley … would be the day of the century for both teams
Good game, they came so close to scoring many times. How did the linesman see that offside! Can’t really tell if it was or wasn’t.
Don’t know what was on Ivanovich’s mind for them two gifts he gave them. Hopefully they will go to the Liberty stadium in two weeks time and make amends.
