The Deserter / La spina dorsale del diavolo (Burt Kennedy, 1970)

Does anyone know if there is a Blu Ray out there in any country or if it’s in the works at some Label?

None that I’m aware of sadly

Not even decent dvd I think.

Thank you for your reply.

Someone needs to save this film and put it out in some form. Very fun film.

Hopefully both English dubs will be made available if they ever release a Blu-ray. If they can’t find the other dub, I can always help out.

There’s a second thread created earlier, with four long messages

Just watched on Tubi this weekend. Thought it was good up until the ending which I thought was a little disappointing. That’s just me though.

Was the picture quality good, widescreen, nice print etc ?

Wide screen but the quality was anywhere from Eh to piss poor. It looked washy.

Probably should have watched this years ago but I finally watched this for the first time the other night. Really liked it…didn’t think it was perfect but it’s definitely in my top 60, probably my top 55. I thought Fehmiu was awesome…I wish he made more spags than he did.

I think the first half to two thirds of that movie is almost as good as it gets.

Great movie that needs a proper release on home video!

yeah it really does.

@Bill_Willer What was the Australian copy you recently got like? Quality-wise.

I know what you mean but I loved the whole film…really enjoyed the different feel for the last third because of the more unique Yugoslavian locations.

I second that…I think like pretty much everybody else.

Haven’t looked yet but I will do and get back to you.

Really? … I thought those scenes are North of Malaga, Spain.

That’s what I thought I read recently…you’ve got me doubting myself now

Edit: Yes you’re right…think I got mixed up because it was partly a Yugoslavian production. Funnily enough I should be going on holiday to Costa Del Sol in a week and a half. Does anyone know if those locations are accessible? I’d love to take a look and add some photos to my collection of photos of Almeria.
