The extended soundtracks of the Dollars trilogy have singing in them too. Iâm sure glad they werenât included in those films. Definitely wouldâve ruined the mystique of the man with no name for me.
The vocals are terrible in Big gundown, everything from NEEEEVEEEEEER!!! NEEEVEEEER!!! to âSOOOOMWWHERE THERE IS A LAND WHERE A MAN CAN BE A MUTHA BROTHER FUCKALOTâ but nothing is worse than whole bit about running away like a tiger or a rabbit, well, makes me cringe. Whenver I show this film to my friends, I always feel like fast forwarding the opening credits sequence, Iâm almost embarrassed for it.
Keoma and Mannaja are of course pretty brutal. But as Phil says, sometimes the vocals are actually done quite decent, like in the Ringo Films, and His Name was King, although i would still prefer instrumental versions for those ones too.
If youâre going to do lyrics, at least wait for the closing credits to do it, not the opening. Killer Caliber 32 does an instrumental opening and a lyrical closing credits and I donât mind it so much.
I like these vocals in the La Resa dei Conti song. I also like the fact that it should have been the title song for Run Man Run (thatâs what sheâs singing). I like most Raoul title songs, most SW title songs actually, but I donât like Mannaja, Keoma soundtracks (and I hate the 4 of the Apocalypse soundtrack - the movie too, btw)
Well, the trailer they posted in April had some questions in the comments regarding the release, supposed to come out in October and âwill include both the English and Italian language versions of the movie.â Nothing on a DVD release or uncut audio/italian and subs for undubbed scenes. Messaged them, no reply as of yet. Link below:
Thought this one was a bit overrated when I watched it will have to give it another go. Face to Face is my current benchmark for non-Leone quality and it will have a hard time beating that one IMOHO. ;D
I have a question about one of the scenes, when Milian escapes after getting his shave, he gets on a horse and from the noise you hear, it sounds like the horse is knocking over the peasants, but when you look at them, it looks like they are rolling out of the way. This scene has always confused me. Anyone care to make heads or tales of it?
My viewing of The Big Gundown was quite a few firsts: my first Spaghetti Western of the year, my first Spaghetti Western on Blu-ray, my first new entry into my Top 10 for quite awhile. Watching it for the first time in HD is probably the ideal viewing experience for this classic. Blending âtraditionalâ Spaghetti Western elements, actual character development for both Van Cleef (his entire black and white worldview is challenged and subverted) and Milian and well-integrated political points that feel to be a natural offshoot of the plotting rather than hammered in. The actors, cinematography and Sollima are all on wonderful form - the music is deservedly iconic and the entire climax, from the cane fields onwards, is superb. Is it the best non-Leone Spaghetti Western? Perhaps The Great Silence should still hold that accolade, but itâs close.
Cox reports that (I think it is) Frayling saying that there was a 135 min cut, 25 min longer than our current 110 min Italian cut. Has this been confirmed to actually exist, and if so, any knowledge as to what this missing footage consists of (from the length, one would suppose entire sequences rather than parts of already existing scenes) and any hope of recovering it?
Maybe just another error by Cox. So far I only know about a longer version of Face to Face (but not one that ever was assembled or that has an actual chance to be released). While that could be a good idea, La resa dei conti is already 20 min too long for me.
Yeah, one of the reasons Iâm kinda not overly-bothered by the Grindhouse English version being slightly cut (although have not viewed it yet) - makes the film shorter and honestly this isnât a favorite spagh for me
