Bud is better known for his comedies but he made far more than one serious role.
God Forgives, I Don’t
A Reason to Live, a Reason to Die
Five Man Army
These spring to mind. I’m sure there are more.
In truth, I think the reason Spencer has missed out so far is that he kind of falls between two stools. Is he a lead or support actor? As a lead he has a lot of guys ahead of him before he is likely to get the nod. (Although not so many now we have had two rounds of voting) As a support player he has a lot of good company of actors who folk probably think often get overlooked. So, again, Bud misses out as he is so well known. I actually think there is a good chance he’ll make it next time around. He certainly has a deserving case for inclusion.

And a small beardless role in Beyond the Law
It was a little strange at first seeing him without his beard.

Even Comedy westerns count too.
I voted for him but give it some time. I don’t expect everybody to voted in all at once. His time will come. I’m actually more surprised that Henry Fonda hasn’t made it.

Thats the dilemma. Although I handle it by adding votes from both categories and the category that gets the most votes is the category that he gets inducted in. That is how Enzo Barboni got voted in as a cinematographer as opposed to as a directory. He got votes for both categories but more people voted for him as a cinematographer.
For me Fonda is not a SW actor. Even if he made a second film in the genre. Otherwise I surely had voted for him.
Both roles contain probably the best acting in any SW. And he has a fantastic highly charismatic presence in both films. But it is on the other hand not the typical SW acting.
Good to see Bud Spencer being debated. I live in the UK so his comedies after the spaghetti western phase are not very well known over here, but I did see Odds and Evans at the cinema.
Ask my dad, our kid, my mate Bri, Honk and Deadly Dave plus my mum, and especially my wife and they will say "Bud Spencer thats that big bloke from those Spaghetti Westerns who eats loads of food, thumps people on the head and wears a big woolly cool looking jacket, insults people and growls alot.
The Trinity films, love them or hate them were extremely successful and personally I think Bud is better than Terence in both these films.
The beard should not have gone… it soon came back
I think he’s brilliant, long live the five man army. I vote for Bambino again
I agree with all the last few comments. Peace & Love
I agree with you that Fonda is not an SW actor. But you don’t have to be a “SW actor” per se to qualify for the Hall of Fame. Jack Palance is not really an SW actor either but he managed to get in.

Thanks for your comments Neville. You can always vote for Bambino next year, as will I.
Can’t agree with you. Palance is imo the perfect SW actor. Too bad after a promising start he was wasted in worse films and acted adequately later.
I felt really sad for him when I watched him in God’s Gun or in Safari Express . He seemed to act with the bitter acceptance of self-abasement. He seemed to know that he couldn’t sink deeper.
Peter Martell
September 30, 1938 (Bolzano, Italy)- February 4, 2010 (Bolzano)
Born Pietro Martellanza, the former Mr. Italy came within an inch of superstardom. During the 60’s and 70’s, the handsome former model and sailer landed roles in dozens of productions, including 16 Italian Westerns. His most memorable Western role was playing opposite Leonard Mann in Ferdinando Baldi’s The Forgotten Pistolero (1969). He also had supporting roles in Long Days of Hate (1968), and Enzo Barboni’s The Unholy Four (1970). Martell was then cast to play ‘Trinity’ in the first of Barboni’s “Trinity” films, but a broken foot suffered during a dispute with his girlfriend led to him being replaced by Terence Hill. The ‘Trinity” films turned out to be hugely successful, possibly denying Martell of a more lucrative film career. Outside of the Spaghetti Western genre, he made his mark in the Italian Horror genre, appearing in The Bloody Judge (1970), Death Walks at Midnight (1972), as well as the Euro-Crime film, Street People (1976). In more recent times, Martell had fallen on hard times, and a documentary about his life was produced in 1997. This led to a minor career revival, as he made appearances in a couple of horror films including Tears of Kali (2004).
I’m not sure that’s necessarily true. For me, at least, much of the appeal of the Trinity films comes from the acting and the chemistry of Hill & Spencer. I’m not sure that a Martell Trinity would have done as well, and the spaghetti may have died a quicker death.
Thanks Cat, I have modified it.
I don’t know that that was necessary. I just wanted to nitpick! ;D
I got a bit more time on my hands now so I can resume writing bios for the 2011 inductees.
Non Participant/Other Crew
CARLO SIMI
November 7, 1924 (Tuscany, Italy)- November 26, 2000 (Rome, Italy)
An architect by trade, Simi contributed greatly to the distinct look of the Spaghetti Western, 22 films in total, including some of the most famous examples of the genre. Working as a production designer, costume designer, art decorator and set decorator, his unique wardrobe and set designs can be seen in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), For a Few Dollars More (1965), A Fistful of Dollars (1964), Django (1966), Keoma (1976), A Genius, Two Partners and a Dupe (1975), The Big Gundown (1966), Sabata (1969) and Face to Face (1967). Outside of the western genre, he was the Art Director for yet another Sergio Leone masterpiece, Once Upon a Time in America (1984), for which he won a Silver Ribbon award. For the film For a Few Dollars More, he built the town of ‘El Paso’ in Almeria, Spain, which still exists today as a tourist attraction called “Mini Hollywood”. Some of his work was also seen at the Sergio Leone exhibit at the Autry National Museum in Los Angeles, in 2005, as well as his own exhibit at the Church of the Artists in Rome, in 2011.
