Good news for francophone Leone venerators: Giré’s documentary will be available on DVD in May, and Grenoble-based publisher Glénat has announced a comic-book biography of zio Leone for April publication (written by Noël Simsolo, author of Conversations avec Sergio Leone [1987]).
… will be released on Blu-ray in May.
That sounds interesting. Simsolo certainly knows a lot (in person) when it comes to Leone. I wonder why he’s going with a comic-book though?
He’s also a comic-book writer.
Great, updated the page

Was this exhibition mentioned yet here?
my reason to fly to Rome in the next couple of weeks (at least that’s the idea)
Black-and-white footage showing Leone working on the sound effects of Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (with English subtitles) –
Very interesting clip, but there are a few anomalies … Roma 1967 is seen, but GBU was premiered December 1966, plus music from ‘Giu la testa’ can be heard at the end.
New book out in two weeks
Did anyone get it? Opinions, reactions?
Yes, one of my christmas gifts this year.
Haven’t had a proper time to really give it a thorough response but so far it looks pretty awesome
Personally, I thought the same as Phil. I bought it, had a cursory look through it, and then put it aside, waiting for the Christmas/New Year festivities to pass over. (I got mine for £30 odd from ‘Amazon UK’).
First impressions…an informative - can’t do without - chunk of a book, and certainly enough to test the strength of your coffee table.
It’s written by Sir Chris Frayling, so you know that you are going to get value for money.
On skimming through it briefly, it has many pics I’ve never seen before, as well as what appears to be a wealth of interviews and anecdotes from Sergio’s closest associates.
This epic contains everything, from Leone’s humble beginnings, to his unfulfilled ambitions.
As already said, I’ve only skimmed through this…but I’ve perused enough to realise that any Sergio Leone fan should grab this while they can - lest it go the way of ‘The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly’ by Peter J. Hanley, which is now so popular that it is difficult to obtain.
That’s just my advice, amigos and senoritas…Grab it while you can.
P.S. What comes across with this welcome Sergio Leone release from Sir Christopher Frayling - as always - is his on-going love-affair and affection with Leone and the 'Spaghetti Western…
You can almost feel the passion for the subject on every page…It’s a most heart-rending, emotive account of one of the greatest screen personalities of all time.
Thank you, Sir Christoper Frayling, from myself, and all at ‘SWDB’, for putting so much time and effort into proving that an Italian upstart that the American Western film makers looked down upon, has now proved to be one of the most legendary film Directors ever born.
VIVA, LEONE!
Will receive mine today, but also got one from the publisher on the way. Will definitely write a little review of it.
Got mine yesterday and I can only second what has already been said above. This is a book I will enjoy for a very long time, beautiful stuff.
Started reading the book, will be a big review soon.
As I am reading, I am turning into a stalker, wondering where the Leone villa is. So apparently it’s in the EUR neighborhood, and some clues as to how the property looks like can be seen here. I already spent too much time on google maps satellite imagery trying to find that pool… anyone else out there with an idea?
If this is an indication at all, it should be Via Nepal 24.
That means the pool seen on Instagram could be the one seen in the screenshot I made, at the bottom, as the pool has some distinct dents, that fit. It look like quite a huge property…
