Nostalgia TV corner

I’m not quite old enough to remember it’s first run in the 60s but it was repeated regularly here in the UK in the 70s and 80s and, as a result, Batman is one of my earliest televisual memories. I loved it to pieces when I was a little lad, and would run around my playschool (so my mum tells me) clad in a dress-up sparkly cape singing “Der ner ner ner ner ner ner ner BAT-MAAANN!”

Famously (over here, anyway) in the mid-eighties there was a lengthly technicians strike at breakfast TV channel TV-AM so the producers replaced the regular live broadcast with Batman re-runs, and Batman promptly started returning better viewing figures than the show for which it was deputising, massively undermining the strike action and putting the future of the channel at very real risk. :grinning:

Of course, quite apart from being a kiddie’s action favourite, it works brilliantly on a second level as a fantastically dry comedy once the kiddies have grown up into adults. Consequently, I love it to this day and my Blu-ray box set of the show remains one of my crown jewels. Der ner ner ner ner ner ner ner BAT-MAAANN!
