I like True Grit, The Cowboys, Big Jake and from memory, I liked Rio Lobo. Rooster Cogburn, however, used to really annoy me. My grandfather loved that film and I couldn’t understand the appeal. I found Katherine Hepburn extremely irritating. Not quite as much as Maureen O’Hara but bad enough.
The Shootist is one of my favourite John Wayne films, Chisum is one of the worst and I like Cahill even though it’s pretty average.

Alamo (1960) shocked me when I was kid. I still hoped they would make it. It might not be historically accurate but it surely made deep and lasting impression.
