Italian Crime Films

A great crime film that should have a look by all is Insan Avcisi/Man Hunter '79.IMDB
has the English version of this film as Heart Of A Father. This is incorrect as it is a
different film.Insan Avcisi a Turkish gem is one of the best crime films I’ve ever seen.
The film is action packed with great fight scenes & heavy violence. The star,Cunyet
Arkin beats the daylights out of his opponets, obliterates the crims with a sawn off
shot gun while he has a cigarette glued to his bottom lip.The plotline is the Turkish
police(Arkin) with an American counterpart want to clean up the drug trade.Arkin finds
out the American is involved in the drug trade so it’s Arkin vs the entire criminal
element. The way Arkin disposes of some of the crimins are classic.Beats the tar out of
one of them, shoves him into a coffin & slides the coffin into an incinerator while the
guy is screaming & kicking. There a few other beauties of a guy getting split by a log cutter & another of one getting clamped in a bear trap, hung on a wench & swung around by a crane in a junkyard while his face his smashed into a buildings windows.
This film is a thrill from start to finish.I’ve seen Heart Of A Father,Maglup Edilemeyenlar
while good don’t match the intensity these 2 are still fine films that have a dark
element to them.Up next are Soysuzlar & Karateciler.

Do you know where one can purchase this film?

Also known as “Manhunt” this is another top italian crime film with Mario Adorf as the lead.
agreed. "manhunt " is a good tough italian-german co production and one of the better “mob movie” films. film has a good cast, and looks better than many others of its ilk. film has it’s violent moments and after a rather slow, clumsy start and no real characters to root for , this soon changes as the plot unravels. a good film and quite under rated.

Rome:The Other Face Of Violence '76/Roma L’Altra Faccia Della Violenza directed by
Violent Rome director Marino Giorlami. This could be considered a sequel to Violent
Rome though the leads are different actors.Anthony Steffen & Marcel Bozzuffi have the
top billed roles. There is quite a bit of violence as the low lifes are merciless in their
quest to make a living. These thugs to gain the spoils thrash, murder, rape women of
all ages & kill cops as if it was a sport.A citizen in Rome during this time had to be
prepared at all times to protect themselves.Steffen’s character who’s daughter was
murdered becomes a vigilante. The scumbags are quite relentless while after they
toss a few grenades at the cops the cool headed commissario when he gets his hands
on a few of them beats them into the ground.A downbeat, dark film which comments on
the dangerous days in Rome during the 70’s.

Thanks to a subtitled avi version found on a torrent site i was able to watch “Come cani arrabbiati” yesterday. This film was never released in english so it was the only way to watch it. One user on the AVmaniacs forum referred to it as “Giallo a venezia of italian crime” or something like that so it made me interested [haven’t seen giallo a venezia but i heard a lot of it so more or less i know how sick it is]. I have to say i disagree with the statement. It wasn’t so violent. It was pretty sleazy with lots of nudity, but not too violent. It was not a good movie as well, so it’s hardly surprised it wasn’t distributed outside Italy and Greece [where the vhs that was ripped in this version was released].

Come Cani Arrabbiati is an excellent trashy crime film that is worthy multiple viewings.I just
got the English subtitled version while beforehand the Italian audio sufficed. The gang is a
loveable lot after they rob the cash from a football game murdering a guard in the process.
The wife of the guard is so distraught she takes her own life. The inspector who’s on the case
has his hands full. This loveable group of rogues go through the city robbing, murdering &
raping while a female member is having the time of her life in the mayhem & bloodshed.
This is one intense crime film.

New Entertainment has released Rome armed to the teeth:

Thanks for the heads up … Ordered it from the www.dtm.at … Didn’t have the Alpha Video release so might as well get this one …

I ordered the NEW dvd as well, first euro crime film I ever saw, the alpha disc has a couple of audio drop outs so can’t wait to see it with nice audio.
Ahhhh… a man after my own heart

STREET KILLERS/BEAST WITH A GUN - Sergio Grieco W/ Helmut Berger,Marissa Mell,Richard Harrison
VIOLENT ROME - Franco Martinelli (Marino Girolami) w/ Maurizio Merli
VIOLENT NAPLES - Umberto Lenzi w/ Maurizio Merli, John Saxon
A MAN CALLED MAGNUM- Michele Massimo Tarantini w/ Luc Merenda

This is a list by Yodlaf from page 1

Is it representative?

I would say that the list is pretty representative.
If I were to recommend you 10 Italian crime films that are must sees I would recommend the following.

 1. Revolver
 2. High Crime
 3. Almost Human
 4. IL Boss
 5. Violent Rome
 6. Confessions of a police captain
 7. Roma a mano armata
 8. Street Law
 9. Milano calibro 9
 10. Ricco the mean machine

Yeah my favourite is THE CYNIC THE RAT AND THE FIST …

Anything with Henry Silva or by Umberto Lenzi, Fernando Di Leo, Marino Girolami, Enzo G Castellari

And good ones from other directors imo
VIOLENT CITY
CONTRABAND
THE LAST ROUND
COP IN BLUE JEANS

Let’s not forget my personal favourite - “Rabid dogs”.

Watched “Milano Calibre 9” yesterday. The beginning and ending of this one were stunners and all in between was ok i thought. Great cast and score.

And I watched another Milan-movie: Milano rovente aka Gang War In Milan … Which was pretty entertaining actually. Directed by Umberto Lenzi and Antonio Sabato of western fame playing the lead character as one of the ‘gang leaders’ … Nice score too. Very recommended. Milano calibre 9 is better though

I just recieved “Roma a mano armata” from exploited on the NEW label, great film.

My favourite intro to any Italian crime film

Watched L’umomo della strada fa giustizia aka Manhunt in the City last night … Not as good as I had hoped but kept me interested all way through eventhough … The best thing was undoubtedly Bruno Nicolai’s fantastic score and well Henry Silva is Henry Silva, always a pleasure to watch in action.

Recommended but probably wouldn’t make my top 10

I just watched “Street Law” and as my intro to the genre it wasnt a very good start.

It was just way to generic. Plus it was actually pretty dull.

ill give at least a couple more films in the genre a shot though.
