Feedback and Requests, Corrections, Maintenance and Development

Not quite sure what you mean. We can certainly link more mentions of actors to the actors pages, that’s just work we’d have to put in. As for the search, you also have to search the IMDb, they just have a many thousand fold better search  But a better search is on the top list of things I’d love to implement for the SWDb as well.

For example, the name of an actor should be a link that leads to a page where all the actors films are listed. Then each film is a link that leads to the film’s page, and so on. Then you could browse the database in a much more smooth manner. After all this is what a wiki is supposed to be.

Yes that is correct, and we can do that, but unlike the IMDb, the SWDb is mostly not automated, structured data, so we have to place those links by hand, like a classic wiki. We do have the categories on the end of most film pages that already do quite what you describe - but yes, there’s still a long way to go. All we need is editors

Should have been done from the start, the basics, but it seems other things were prioritized. Pictures, reviews, hall of fame, et cetera.

Nobody stopped anyone from linking names, and there isn’t some sort of secret prioritization going on, this is a hobby project with barely a handful of people sacrificing their free time to put something together. You’re welcome to help out. And as I said, your feedback is valid, I think ultimately names should be more consequently linked.

Maybe this wasn’t fully understood by those who worked on the database, that material in a wiki is supposed to be linked to each other as much as possible, a link takes you to another link, and another, and so on.

The SWDb is full of links, what are you even talking about? As I explained: this is a classic wiki where all links are manual so it’s up to whoever edits a text to put the links in. This is a volunteer effort, so someone for example adds cast members, I’m happy someone does that, I’m not gonna email them and hound them for not linking them, that’s not how volunteerism works. This discussion is going in circles, amigo. Happy to furnish you with an account so you can add some links

Ok I will be silent. The database is perfect and wonderful as it is.

Certainly isn’t.

Sometimes in the SWDb the cast/other crew are linked to another page with all films this person were in.

For example the Navajo Joe page, Burt Reynolds and Fernando Rey are clickable and leads you to another page with the films they were in. And the films on this page are in turn clickable. This is how it should be.

But Nicoletta Machiavelli and Aldo Sambrell are not clickable, even though they were in multiple SWs. So you can not just continue browsing if you want to check out these people.

If an actor or other crew were in more than one film there should always be a link to a summary with the films they contributed to.

This is the basic of how a wiki should function, that you can continue browsing and reading by just clicking.

We’ve already established that we agree on this, but also thanks for identifying an example to illustrate your improvement suggestion.

It’s all work in progress anyway. Links are good idea but it’s just a shitload of work. And I think we have been prioritizing with the categories (on the bottom of the page). I usually navigate through these.

Yep, me too.

I prefer IMDb over SWDb, even for checking SWs, and this is not how it should be you’d think.

Didn’t realize our scrappy operation was in a competition with a multi billion dollar corporation, but ok. I do use IMDb as well, daily  it’s not an either or.

Sorry about this, but like I said it’s not easy to search, not like it should be. And I’m probably not the only one who has this opinion. There must be people outside of this forum who checks the database also.

I use SWDB almost every day and I can’t really see the point of your criticism. Nowhere else online can I find so much information about Star Wars films, and it’s free, with no annoying adverts or cookie prompts… what a treasure trove :cowboy_hat_face:

You keep repeating yourself, so I have to keep repeating myself: there already is agreement in that it could be improved.

Ok, and it’s not difficult either, you could have had this practice from the beginning, of linking everything together. I actually have a private movie wiki myself, for eurospy movies, and everything is linked together so it is very easy to check things, actors, directors et cetera what movies they were in and so on.

But you didn’t understand what I was talking about so you hadn’t really thought about this for the SWDb.

What part of this being a hobby don’t you get exactly? It’s a team effort. You want more links, I give you an account and you’re free to pull a few all-nighters to put them in.
