Favorite opening credits sequences

Another title sequence designed by Iginio Lardani.

And a very good one! The other day, I popped it into the player just to listen to the opening theme song. Great credits sequence.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Fistful of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
Once Upon a Time in the West
Run Man Run
John the Bastard
The Hills Run Red
Bullet for the General
Anda Muchacho, Spara! (Dead Men Ride)
Forgotten Pistolero
Nato per uccidere (Born to Kill)
Non aspettare Django, spara (Don’t Wait, Django… Shoot!)
The Big Gundown
Those Dirty Dogs
Vengeance
Viva Django
Man of the East
Trinity is Still my Name
Tutto per tutto (Go for Broke)

The credits sequence of For One Thousand Dollars Per Day is also rather interesting, kind of reminds me of In a Colt’s Shadow.

Django defies Sartana is in twenty-fourth place, but the gif shows the credits of Fidani’s Django and Sartana… Showdown in the West with the same title of the movie directed by Squitieri.

So, which of the two movies is the intended one?

If the gif is correct director and available DVDs link will have to be changed

Favorite opening credits sequences

  1. California
  2. Django prepare a coffin
  3. The Price of power
  4. The Big gundown
  5. The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
  6. They Call me Trinity
6.Shoot the living… pray for the dead
    7.One Silver Dolllar
    8.The Mercenary

The title sequence of I tre che sconvolsero il West a.k.a. One Dollar Too Many is also fairly good, despite being penalised by an inappropriate musical accompaniment.

Once Upon a Time in the West has the best opening credits sequence of any film, in my opinion. My favourite minutes of screen time bar none.

My Favorite Opening Sequences are as follows

Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly)

C’era una Volta il West (Once Upon a Time in the West)

Per un Pugni di Dollari (For a Fistful of Dollars)

La Resa di Conti (The Big Gundown/The Settling of Accounts)

Une Corde, Un Colt (Cimitero Senza Croce, The Rope and the Colt, Cemetery Without Crosses)

I Giorni dell’Ira (Day of Anger)

Quella Sporca Storia nel West (Johnny Hamlet/Dirtiest Story in the West)*

Arizona Colt (The Man From Nowhere)*

Requiem para el Gringo (Requiem per un Gringo, Requiem for a Gringo, Duel in the Eclipse)

Corri Uomo Corri (Run Man Run)

  • Asteric refers to films I haven’t seen, but was able to catch the opening credits sequence on YouTube

I tried to stick with ones I found unique or well done

Honorable Mentions

Una Pistola per Ringo (A Pistol for Ringo), Il Ritorno un Ringo (The Return of Ringo), Django, and Il Grande Silenzio (The Great Silence)

And what is the answer to my question (see Replies # 25-26)?

Sorry I missed the #25/26 comments.

The entry is meant to be “Django and Sartana’s showdown in the West” so my entry has the incorrect Director information. I do like the “Django defies Sartana” colour sequence.
I do remember mixing up these 2 movies in the past as they use similar titles (Django defies Sartana/Django against Sartana).
When I get time I will review the list and update it as I have more DVD’s now than I did at the time of making the list.

I fixed the above-mentioned problem and added Lardani to the ‘‘Day of Anger’’ entry.
