Interesting! Are the extras on these English friendly?

We don’t know yet

Eureka has announced a Kar May box for UK and USA, that’s fantastic. Details added to the database.

How are these films? They look fun from the trailer.

And is this a complete collection?

Edit: I don’t understand why these 7 films. Seems random. They skip the first movie.

Grew up with these, loved them and the novels. Very fairytale mix between defa and spaghetti

A definite purchase for me. Mostly for the extras, transfers and curiosity value.

The few Winnetou films I’ve seen have all been watchable with the occasional elements of originality.

I’d love to see a similar boxset of Italian swashbucklers, a completely lost genre.

Added the covers for the February Danish releases. The runtime on Boot Hill is a bit of a concern, I hope the cover is wrong…

While I’m gearing up to prepare our monthly recap for this weekend, some more releases keep sneaking into our calendar…

That Karl May release may have trouble over horsefalls in the UK. I thought there were a few in those Winnetou movies (although I didn’t record any in my viewing notes)..

And is this a complete collection?

Mecieta - the movies in this box set are CCC movies. The other Winnetou movies were made by Rialto. Different rights holders. None of the Rialto movies have come out in the UK although all released on Blu Ray in Germany.

Eureka also released a CCC Krimi box set of Bryan Edgar Wallace and Edgar Wallace - whereas again the Rialto Edgar Wallace Krimis are available only in Germany on Blu ray.

exactly, the title of this box set gives it away

That is my suspicion as well, but I doubt they produce two sets of discs. Wasn’t there a rumor somewher a while ago that for example the way Arrow blacks out these scenes is actually not hard coded but something that happens if your player is set to Region B, and you could avoid it by setting it to Region A or something?

I know that the Conan the Barbarian (1982) UK Blu Ray has horsefall cuts but you can avoid that by changing the country when you play the film somehow so there are several wheezes to avoid UK specific cuts.

This from Melon Farmers website:

emphasized textThe UK Blu-ray contains both the uncut international version and the cut UK variant of the international version.

The uncut version is played when the default language for the Blu-ray Player internal menus is set to one of the non-English options. The English language film may still be selected. If the English Blu-ray player menuing system is selected then the cut UK version will play.

There was a rumor, but I can’t find any solid info to verify it. Assuming Wobbles info is correct about Conan, there is another Arrow release with a censored moment that can presumably only be viewed in the U.S.: In ā€œThe Savage Threeā€ from Arrow’s ā€œYears of Leadā€ box set, there is a moment where rats kill another rat. Online sources say that Arrow authored both A and B discs separately, so that the U.S. release is the only uncut version with this scene. However, when I bought the set I remember hearing the rumor that this scene could, in fact, be viewed by switching the code. If anyone has the region B of this set and a multi region player, it might be a good one to try switching the region code to A to see if the moment is there. From what I recall, it is in the beginning of the film.

I have the Years of Lead UK Box and a region free player. I will try in a few days.

Can confirm now, Years of Lead box, Savage Three.
If I set the player to region B the screen goes black during the rat fighting scene.
Set the player to region A and the fight scene is there.

that could mean two things: seamless branching, or conditional screen blacking (which I think was also the caseon one of the spaghetti western box sets, I forgot which picture)

I believe the cut depending on region A or B is standard now for Arrow. I know for their recent shawscope release, Bloody Parrot plays cut when set to B and uncut when set to A on a multi region player.
