Looks like that new UK label’s release of Road to Fort Alamo will be delayed quite a bit. Despite the release date being in just a few weeks, the restoration itself isn’t even finished yet which is a bit odd.

Sounds like a lot of work and expense for a relatively obscure little movie … great that it’s being done, but as always it strikes me there are much more worthy titles in need of this TLC .
Wonder what the story is behind this restoration, or rather why this was chosen over so many other candidates.

Well, one movie at a time I guess :joy:. On the full post on their FB they have a nice comparison video showing the restored footage next to the unrestored and they really are working with some tough materials.

I do hope that it’s a success.

I believe here the answer is quite simple: Mario Bava. The cult status of some directors apparently make any effort and all releases profitable. While a great many superior films get no or sloppy releases, most works of Bava get an upgrade with every new achievement in digital video technology, it seems. Fort Alamo is still a bizarre choice as I don’t think even most die-hard Bava fans actually like it, but maybe it’s the only one that could still be licenced?

It’s even more extreme with Argento where it seems there’s a new, better version almost annually with some titles.

Honestly, I prefer that they take their time with the releases as opposed to just pumping them out for a quick buck.

Any word on that DYS from Kino? I love that film and, although Eureka“s release isn“t horrible, I would love it if another one of Leone“s films could get a definitive version.

Elementary my dear Peon! … I’d actually forgotten it was a Mario Bava flick. Yes, that makes sense.

Of course I do as well but for a new company it is not a strong title to be starting with… makes it a bit of a gamble. So I have my doubts to how this will go for them but as with any small company I wish them success in all future endeavors!

I sure hope they don’t source the German audio from the Marketing DVD.

I have sent them better audio from VHS (longest version) and from 35mm source. These tracks are also more complete compared to DVD.

That’s great news! Let’s hope they don’t filter it to death (or include an optional unfiltered audio track).

Excellent news :+1:t2:! The French Blu Ray looked quite good, but I’ve got a good feeling Explosive Media’s Blu Ray will be exquisite.
