The Italian Blu-Ray of A Fistful of Dollars has English audio (and subtitles) and the quality is superb. It is also region free.
It was out of print already but I think they pressed some more discs. I have no idea if these differ somewhat from the earlier press (if they do, maybe some of the extra material like the small book or the postcards are missing?)
Was the original release the one in the red DVD sized box? Iâm assuming the re-release is this Cecchi Gori one, or am I mistaken ???:
Notably, the previous Cecchi Gori release is not listed with English on IBS:
Unfortunately the Italian Blu-Ray of GBU doesnât have English soundtrack but it is way better than the MGM disc. (Unless you hate how film looks)
Uh oh....while the mondo disc is jaw dropping sharp and the color is stellar, there's a big issue with it...I just posted this on the avs forum:
Thereâs a big problem with this new mondo transferâŚIâm assuming because this was from the original negative (and not the mgm interpositive based version) that each cut is glued together or spliced together and that over time this has warped the first two frames of the incoming shot and the last two frames of the outgoing shot, because EVERY CUT JUMPSâŚmostly each cut slightly shifts or warps, but literally there are cuts where the frame jumps a 3rd up the screen - and you can see the top of the frame at the bottom of the screen on the cut! (as if the film is out of itâs register as itâs being scanned) Case in point, look at the 2nd or 3rd cut in the scene where tuco is shot of his horse (and then after Blondie/Eastwood comes in for the first time). Tuco reaches for his gun, and the last 2 frames jump a 3rd up the screen, his boot is now on the bottom of the screen divided by a black line (a film frame line) - it would be great if someone who can capture br could post those frames upâŚ
ARRRRGGG I really canât believe they would have let this goâŚthey must have decided it wasnât worth the money to fix itâŚitâs such a amazing transfer otherwiseâŚ

As far as I know and can see (at other Italian online stores) only two versions exist. The red box (and a reprint of it?) and then the âbarebonesâ release in regular case that is missing all the extra material that is inside the red box (booklet, lobby card reproductions and whatever).
I would say the first one is the new barebones release and the other is the red box (no Blu-Ray exists with the kind of cover ibs shows, DVDs do exist like that though).
Btw, Videociak lists both versions as out of print.
I was just reading about the Coppola restoration of the Godfather trilogy on blu-ray and noticed the same thing: the US trilogy is packaged in one slim single case; the UK release has them in individual cases in a large box. I wonder what kind of market research could lead to such decisions⌠or maybe itâs just coincidence.
Any clue on what these might be?
According to UPC 0-683904-630155 for this product, it is very likely a budget product from Mill Creek or similar label and I guess that they will pack several movies on one blu-ray disc.
Amazon.uk just sent me this email today regarding the Face to Face blu ray. They evidently still havenât been told it is cancelled.

Watched this yesterday. What a great product!
Just to confirm, the packaging is indeed identical to the image above (this is the first regular blu-ray case Iâve seen thatâs clear rather than blue) and inside it contains a two page (i.e. one folded sheet) leaflet outlining the cast, dubbing, restoration team etc.
The disc does appear to be a re-release of the one in the OOP large red box. I was pleasantly surprised to find that tree of the special features (Ennio Morricone interview, filming location spots, âDue o tre cose che so di luiâ segement) had English subtitles.
Iâve only now realized what you mean. I was referring to one US regular size blu-ray case containing multiple discs in a cardboard sleeve as opposed to each UK disc having its own case in a cardbox box to hold them all. However, I have just noticed that a regular blu-ray case in the UK is as thick as a DVD case and apparently more sturdy! A quick internet search suggests that the US design is more common (my three Italian Blu-rays are all thin), but Australia parallels the UK. Of course itâs no big deal either way, but itâs just curious that there isnât a global standard (at least theyâre all the same height at least).
