The Specialists / Gli specialisti (Sergio Corbucci, 1969)

Thanks for the information Provvidenza

Can you check how long the french version is until the screen goes black ? (without the closing titles in black)

When I was syncing the english subs I noticed besides I have to move them 1min aside for the ā€œmoney burning sceneā€ that I also when the ā€œhippiesā€ starts to shot at Hud and til them say ā€œWith his damned jacketā€¦ā€ I have to move the subs again 10sec. Suggesting that they shot at him abit longer on the Mudusa disc than SPO ā€¦

Yes, just finished watching it, the screen goes black between 1:37:23 and 1:37:24.

Oki thanks, the Mudusa disc at the same spot is 1:38:35 then a fade to black when you see half the horse. The disc stops with FINE at 1:38:45, he would be then at the same spot without seeing the horse as your french disc at 1:37:23, a whole 1min and 22sec longer than the french disc I would say.

That makes sence as SPO used a french version ā€¦

1min and 22sec !!! sounds like an eternity, but at least we know where the cuts are, thanks to your detective work furango
Hope that full length English track turns up someday, this film is long overdue a US/UK DVD release! >:(

Dear God, so this has never had an English release? I really enjoyed the film, but the lack of an English dub (or even a decent release with English subtitles) is seriously holding back its popularity.

There is a very good Audiodubbed Version with English subs!!!

The English audio still hasā€™t been found? I remember seeing the English trailer and wondering if itā€™s ever popped up :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes been found the shorter english audio from the Greek VHS. Think the longer english audio version was screened somewhere not to long ago as I remember some one mentioning.

Ah, ok! Know of any fan dubs that use either audio?

Autephex a member of this board has done a great fandub of this one, using the audio from the Greek vhs and english subtitles for the sections he did not have access to the complete english audio track.

There is a full English version 35mm print in Denmark in the archives ofā€¦ The Danish Film Institute? Not sure of the nameā€¦ DFI does exist but Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s them who have the printā€¦

The Finnish Film Archive (during 1957-2007, National Audiovisual Archive 2008-2013, National Audiovisual Institute 20014-, ) has loaned the print twice and screened it in Finland in 2007 (twice) and 2011 (twice) but I didnā€™t make it there to see it even once! >:( And the theater was like only 100km from where I liveā€¦ :ā€™(

Aw man, thatā€™s a real shame Sundance! any reason as to why it hasnā€™t been used for a release? And thanks Ennioo!

It wouldnā€™t surprise me at all if the long version of the film is actually available from the rights holders completely in English, but the companies that have released it around the world on DVD simply arenā€™t interested in the English track (or it costs too much).
And the companies that would be interested donā€™t pay for anything so they canā€™t release it eitherā€¦

Same could apply for the Danish print I guess (if any interested or non-interested company even knows about it) if it were the only source.

Ughā€¦ >:( This is one reason why I would love to work in a film archive, to have access to these prints even if it were to just ā€œborrowā€ the thing for a day or so to get it digitally scanned (or however itā€™s done, I apologize for my lack of exact knowledge) and saved for distribution in some form

Weird movie. Some of the socio commentaries were strong (burning of the money etc.), but the heavy-handed anti-hippie agenda was hard to digest. Best part of the movie are the action scenes where Corbucci showed his great flair this time, and I always like show-stealing menacing presence of Mario Adorf (although his badly masked ā€˜missing armā€™ was annoying).

I just saw this for the first time a few nights ago and I was very disappointed. Corbucci barely even tried with this one. The music is even worse, bland locations and bad performances. Corbucciā€™s worst western in my opinion. Although the naked scene was nice and weird.

One of those 4-5 titles not deserving the Alternative Top 20, in my view.

I had heard this did not do so well in Italy, but I had not realized that Corbucci even urged people not to go and see it there given the cuts imposed by the Italian distributor:

Interesting. I wonder what was cut out?
