A great one, deep and more intelligent than your average SW. The mountainous scenery is simply goosebumping as far as i am concerned, Hallyday is cool and itās surely a good thing that he doesnāt talk much. The ending leaves questions unanswered, but what the heck, a wounded hero who dares to face 4 armed persons without any bullets left is two thumbs up for me in any case. 4/5 stars
I just love the bullet proof vest sceneā¦ its so well done, I watch that more than the movie itself
That and the gunfights in this are the best Corbucci ever produced.
Quality film that is slightly flawed (personally I think the ways Hud figures out who murdered his brother are just ridiculous. And there should have been more gunfights in mu opinion).

After giving him a copy of the film Mr. Nero told me that he was to star in this movie but he was busy in America making āCamelotā for a full year (he told me the same for why he couldnāt star in THE GREAT SILENCE).
I donāt see how this is possible since Camelot was finished in 1967 but Iām sure Mr. Nero is just confused.
At least Mr. Neroās filmography would have benefited from both, while the best he got from Camelot was Miss Redgrave.

Iām pretty sure it was Preparati la Bara that he was lined up for when he went off to make Camelot. Which is why they got a Nero lookalike (Terence Hill) to do the role instead. Whether he was lined up for a Corbucci too? Who knows, but, youāre right, there was plenty of time for him to make The Great Silence or Gli Specialisti if heād wanted. These actors often donāt have as good a memory of such things. They should really just ask us geeks. ;D
I asked about this as well and he told me that, that story is rubbish.
Had he turned down Camelot he would have done a few movies for Corbucci instead.
He turned down the role for VIVA DJANGO so I guess the next choice was Hill.

I have recently had my eye on this ne. Great looking sceary ala shobaryās site and nice, spaghetti touches such as the bullet proof vest. Looks good. The music sounded quie a bit like Greek music in MO. Are there any english friendly DVD-Rs or Region 1 releases of this out there?
I think there are a couple of dvd-rs. I saw one mentioned on the European Trash Cinema site which said it was also uncutā¦but not fantastic quality. And i think there is a fan dubbed one of the French dvd (which is the one i haveā¦the French, not the dvdr ;)).

Watched the uncut Kinowelt release today. Still nothing too special but Iāve enjoyed it quite a bit.

Iām not completely sure about that, The Specialists is a reaction to the failure of the '68 student uprising in Paris, and for a time I thought Corbucci blamed the hippies for the failure. According to some left-wing ideologists - they were āparasitesā (they talked about revolution, but did nothing). But when I was preparing a review of the movie some time ago, I found out it was Johnny Halliday - and not Corbucci - who hated the hippies (he even wrote a song about them, expressing his disgust - I translated the lyrics, theyāre somewhere on the forum). I couldnāt find more about the subject immediately and wrote another Corbbucci review instead (still have to do this one). Itās not impossible that Corbucci afterwards felt that this āhippie thingā was a bit overdone and wanted it removed. Iāll keep looking for evidence.
Hmm, cutting out the end would make all the other scenes with the hippies a bit superfluous. This would destroy the whole film.
The Specialists was indeed accused in Germany to be an anti hippie polemic.
Anybody here who has Corbucci interviews in german or english? There were at least 2 in Germany, one in āFilmā and one in āKonkretā, both from 69, shortly after the releases of Silence and Mercenary.
Later on in the 70s some of these hippies became really nasty terrorists though :o

Not your fault Tigrero, but that is typical politically correct bullshit, calling everyone who is militant and uses violence for political purposes a āFascistā 
Anyway, I was mainly refering to Brigate Rosse (Red Brigades) and Rote Arme Fraktion (Red Army Faction) the Marxist-Leninist terrorists in Italy and the former West-Germany, who had their roots in the student uprisings of 1968, and who commited some horrible acts of terror in the 70s and 80s.
