Giallo Genre (Italian Thrillers)

I agree that “Torso” is average, but “The strange vice of Mrs Wardh”, “All the colors of the dark” and “The case of the scorpions tail” are all very good films.
Just watched Torso.
A bad film in my opinion. “Lots of tits and lots of screams”, is how my girlfriend summed it up. Occasionally she is right and this is one of those rare occasions. The motives of the killer are laughable. Some nice kills and some good music, but overall unsatisfying trash. 4,5/10
I also think it’s Martino’s worst giallo.

True, all good films. I especially like All the Colors of the Dark. How do you guys like his 1999 giallo Mozart is a Murderer? Not much talk about that one. I think it only has a Dutch dvd release, so that might have something to with it.

I was under the impression though that it has a good reputation. Or perhaps is just one of the more well known gialli?

Personally I didn’t like it that much, I thought it was more slasher horror than giallo.

Murder Clinic aka La lama nel corpo (dir. Elio Scardamaglia) (1966)

Don’t know if this should be classified as horror or giallo or both so here we are. SW star William Berger stars as the doctor that runs a mental ‘clinic’/hopsital when suddenly people turn up dead. Also there is something with a mysterious woman living in the attic but who is she and is she the mysterious killer?

No spoilers revealed. All I can say is that this isn’t as good as I had hoped. Berger delivers a rather tame performance or else I am just expecting too much for him.

Well see it if you can but for God’s sake get a better version than the VHS-rip I found on cinemageddon. May enhance the experience somewhat.

Version watched: VHS-rip from cinemageddon in letterboxed 2.00:1 or something like that. Taken from the Danish VHS so I got Danish subtitles. Unfortunately the rip was so muddy as to make the subtitles nearly unreadable and the picture just bad :(. Give me a brand new transfer on this one on dvd and I’m willing to watch it again.

I’ve always really liked it. It is equal parts giallo and slasher, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Some nice atmospheric photography, well-paced and a batch of very sexy starlets. A guilty pleasure.

Hehe - it’s my second favorite Giallo.

I just had the incredible misfortune of watching Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion.
What a piece of shit. Is this even a giallo? Unbelievably bad plot about a pill popping housewife who is being blackmailed by a maniac. And of course nobody believes her. In the end however… Hehe, why would I ruin it for the ones who haven´t seen it. Find out yourself the big surprise ending and behold in awe! Crap, crap, crap. Feels like a Gianni Crea carbon copy of a weak Hitchcock. No tension, utterly predictable… just horrible. Only redeeming feature is Nieves Navarro.
Aaargghh… I need something stronger than beer to flush this down. 3/10

Like a toilet?

Hey, don’t get smart with me! You obviously haven’t seen this poor excuse for a film!

No, no I haven’t which I am very happy for. Don’t waste beer on it ;).

I already have. I feel so dirty!

Seven Blood Stained Orchids was the latest I watched.
Ok Lenzi stuff. Laidback tempo, but that´s not bad here. Sabato is quite alright as the amateur tracking down the killer, and in the process making the cops look like jackasses.
Not so much sleaze and gore going on, though there´s an innovative scene with a drill, looking a lot like what Abel Ferrara would do seven years later with his infamous Driller Killer.

Yeah alot of talking and investigation in this one. I watched it in the right mood, so it was a nice experience.

Watched Polselli´s Delirium today. A wonderful sleazefest of a giallo! Can´t believe I´ve never watched it before. 7/10, which will probably go up next viewing.

I’m in the middle of watching this again, having seen it first several years ago.

I agree with your assessment, Soren: it’s OK, but Scardamaglia’s efforts to cram as many gothic clichés into a giallo-esque narrative result in overkill, and the performances are almost all ropey at best.

It’s an early role for Berger, and he doesn’t exhibit much charisma. I guess he was uninspired by the script.

My crappy VHS copy sounds identical to the version you watched.

I don’t even no if it can considered a Giallo, but I not that demanding when it cames to classifiyng genres, but I liked a lot Pensione Paura with Merenda and the very beautifull Leonora Fani (she gave up acting because she didn’t wanna be on those pseudo porn flicks of the time, that she could find work on).
I like this one because it’s simple well filmed the actors are above avarage for the budget, and you can watched to the end, whithout feeling you’re doing a sacrifice to the holly church.
I have this friend that was a art student at the time (not from cinema) and always talking that Godard and stuff of the kind were trully cinema bla bla bla, this was the movie I lent him to prove he was wrong and that Prenom Carmen however good it is, it’s not the only thing in the world and cinem it’s more than a few french directors.
I also lent the guy some Franco and Brass stuff, like him liked to see naked girls

Watched In the Eye of the Hurricane, which is very much influenced by Lenzi´s Orgasmo, but Forqué is no Lenzi.
Slow moving giallo. Not very good, but not too bad either. Great score by Piccioni though. As for the film: 5,5/10

Yesterday I viewed 7 Murders for Scotland Yard with Paul Naschy. Pretty bad giallo with boring murders and you can guess the killer right away. Only good thing is Piccioni´s score 4/10

Anyone else seen The Killer Wore Gloves? Thought this was a pretty good one.
