Genuine question here, because I love the idea of a bit of an alternative list, but I remain desperately uncertain as to the criteria:
If your “actual” Top 20 is your actual Top 20, is your alternative Top 20 - the alternative to your “actual” Top 20, I guess - simply the movies that would be ranked 21-40 in your “actual” Top 40? There seems to be more to it than that, but I’m unclear as to what… :-\
All films are allowed except those which are in our official top 20:
Well, if you don’t like any of the “official” top 20 your top 20 list is then identical with your alternative top 20 list.
@ Phil
To avoid confusion you should maybe change the not eligible films in your first post on page 1 with the actual list, which won’t change anymore, at least not in the near future.
If You Meet Sartana is out and therefore in here, and the Returned Ringo is out here cause it is in there and will not return here. It’s all so easy …
But for everyone else thinking of voting, it is as Stanton states. You can choose any film in your alternative top 20 that does not currently sit in the SWDB Official Top 20.
It is indeed a pretty decent alternative top 10 in my opinion. And also a pretty shaky 11-20 but that’s just my opinion too and not one that counts for anything here. I’ve added your picks to the count and will update the list as a special Christmas present to you all (no need to thank me)
If any one else wants to have their say before then please just add your lists here. At the moment we have had a total of 37 members submit a list so the voting is very close for a lot of titles. One vote here or there can make a big difference and would be the matter of in or out for at least a dozen films.

No, you’re quite right; it definitely needs work (surprised myself how quickly everything went very samey towards the end there). But, that’s part of the beauty of still having a good many pics still to see (plus, most of my Spags to RE-see, which I’ve already found can make a HUGE difference). By the time I’m reviewing it next year, it’ll have a lot more grit and stubble about it, hopefully.
My list is like that too, I really liked only the top 10, I could live with any of the 11-20 movies being replaced with something else. But I’m like that, I usually really like only the chosen few in anything I like. I’m not going for the sheer amount, I’ll rather watch OUATITW or GBU hundred times, than watch 100 of shitty SWs instead.
I think in this Age of Information, people are too obsessed with putting little check marks next to the stuff they’re “into”. We are all going too quickly through the stuff, where we once used to stop and allow it to really soak something it up under our skin over longer period of time.

Of course, that’s the idea.
This is the actual one. Some films were less good than I remembered them, others are more fun now than a few years ago. And of course Return of Ringo isn’t eligible anymore.
Shoot Gringo Shoot and Dead Men Ride are still good, but have lost some feathers, while the Stranger films have improved considerably.
This was as it was nearly 5 years ago:

Uuh, I also skipped Trinity is Still My Name, but only because it is at first a comedy and only also a western. Considered as a western it would be in. But it is so damn difficult to compare a comedy with a non-comedy.
Looking through the lists submitted over the years there are some obvious names missing who have not offered their pearls of wisdom here.
I’m looking at you Ennioo, El Topo, John Welles and Sebastian (we know you’re out there somewhere)
Come on fellas we’d all like to know your picks. Remember, they don’t have to be in any order. Just 20 films not on the official top 20 that you would most recommend.
1. God forgives I don't
2. Bandidos
3. El Puro
4. 10000$ blood money
5. Stranger in Town
6. They call me Hallelujah
7. Taste of Death
8. Sonny & Jed
9. Bullet for Sandoval
10. Black Jack
11. Massacre time
12. Yankee
13. Death Sentence
14. No room to die
15. Stranger returns
16. Ruthless Four
17. Dead Men Ride
18. Fighting Fists of Shanghai Joe
19. The Specialist
20. Adios Gringo
Been a while since I looked at that list. Good list. I like most of what’s on it more than the top 20… I noticed Hallelujahs not in the top 50? I guess comedies aren’t appreciated around here much
